The course goal is to teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal protection. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to apply for an Arizona Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) permit through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AzDPS); in addition, this course may meet CCW education requirements for other states - students should inquire with particular state of interest for acceptance. Students will learn firearm safety, basic defensive pistol skills, drawing from a holster to include from concealment, loading and stoppage remediation, defensive mindset, legal aftermath, types of concealed carry methods, and live fire (on range) drills. At the conclusion of the course, the student will be given a shooting qualification course (50 rounds).

Student Equipment:
Quality Pistol appropriate for concealed carry – recommend minimum of 9mm or .38 Special
Quality Strong Side Hip Holster – recommend form fitted leather or kydex, must cover trigger/trigger guard and have two points of contact with belt (If using an appendix holster (AIWB), contact instructor prior to attending)
Quality Belt, designed to carry a holster and a firearm strongly recommended
Quality ammunition suitable for practice. (Minimum 250 rounds)
Spare magazines or speed loaders with appropriate pouches – at least two additional (3 total devices for class)
Clothing appropriate for concealed carry (example - over garment, jacket, vest, etc.)
Eye protection
Hearing protection - recommend electronic

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all - regardless of previous shooting experience and is available for in two formats; online blended or Instructor led. Students should bring a minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition. Firearms are available for rent ($20.00 plus ammunition); if supplying your own firearm, ensure they are cased – no holsters.
Course will be taught in a classroom (no online portion) - either in a single day or over several days with smaller blocks of instruction. Topics include: safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge, pistol selection, shooting fundamentals, pistol maintenance, marksmanship, and range safety. Students will complete live fire and a NRA shooting qualification while on the range. Student will receive Basics of Pistol Shooting book.
Courses are for law-abiding adult citizens & EXPERIENCED SHOOTERS. Prospective students must demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment. Course meets requirements for Arizona CCW permit; separate application and fee required. Student should bring at least 200 rounds of ammunition.
An 8-hour course, where students will learn basic defensive shooting skills; strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation; legal topics; how to choose a handgun for self-defense; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook and course completion certificate. Note: Only bring cased firearms, no holsters
A 9-hour course, where students learn basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense and gun safety rules specific to defensive situations. Course is offered in two levels. Level one is nine-hours and offers the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered to carry, store, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home. Students will spend several hours on the range and shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition during level one.
Level 2 builds on lessons learned in Level 1, with an additional 5-hours and 150 rounds of ammunition to teach advanced shooting skills. This course can be added anytime within one year of completion of Personal Protection Outside the Home - Level 1.
A 14 hour course, comprised of both Level 1 and Level 2 lessons. Total ammunition required is a minimum of 250 rounds of ammunition. Level I / II combined course can be completed in either 2 or 3 days, depending on the student's schedule.
